Review of one-year work experience at the multinational corporation
My one-year journey in the company from my dream automotive industry almost ended. I will hand over projects to the next placement student during the next two weeks. Time to review!
It has been a busy year despite most European event cancellations that I hoped to assist with and attend during my placement. Working from home wasn't my dream for a placement year, but I am grateful that I could still gain valuable experience and meet many unique and inspiring people worldwide.
I wrote already few words about why you shouldn't think twice about taking a year out and gaining experience in the industry you are studying. (You will also find some tips on landing your perfect job!)
A year ago today
I joined the multinational company for a placement year. Even though my contract has been extended and I have a couple of weeks left, it is an excellent opportunity to review my work experience. To make it sweet and short, I want to discuss five of the most important things. Not only can students take something out of it!

Feel free to apply for a job that doesn't match 100% with your skills/experience. Instead, use what you have got, reinforce your skills, and you will succeed in your role. Did you know that women tend to doubt their abilities, and the vast majority of them will only apply for a job if they cover most of the desirable skills/experience? Please apply for it!

Take every opportunity that comes your way to gain experience. Also, schedule it correctly in your calendar, as it will become busy! A to-do list should always be your good friend. Supporting colleagues outside of your team is an excellent opportunity to stand out. Reach out to your colleagues, and ask if you can shadow them when you have time.

It's important to remember people's names and their roles in the company, which will help you navigate them quicker when working on different projects. Top tip – when you recognise small things in people you meet, it will make it much easier to memorise them.

Get to know systems and try to learn as much company's internal software as possible. I found myself in a situation where I offered support with a task that wasn't part of my job, and then, I was recognised internally for this project across different teams! Check out the company's learning centre platform. It's a never-ending collection of great sources of knowledge.

Bring some positive vibes to your team, don't be miserable and try to stay motivated. At the same time, be honest; if something goes wrong, admit it and fix it. There is nothing worse than hiding stuff to cover yourself up! Communication is key.
I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing the experience was. What's even better, they offered me a full-time position once I graduate from the university. So, make the most of your life and have faith in yourself!
Thanks for visiting,
See you soon!
